Local Market Intel
Louisville, KY
Louisville estate sale companies like Caring Transitions and Stewart Auction regularly price vintage Derby glassware and University of Louisville sports memorabilia as generic kitchenware and old sports junk respectively, because their appraisers do not track eBay sold listings. The Germantown and Schnitzelburg neighborhoods host a concentration of estate sales from longtime Louisville families with deep collections of Churchill Downs adjacent items and pre-1990 Cardinals gear. Showing up on day two of these sales after 11am often gets you 25 to 50 percent off already underpriced items, and no flipper from Chicago or Nashville has the geographic incentive to make that drive for these hyper local categories.
The 2025 Kentucky Derby is weeks away and collectors and tourists are actively hunting vintage Derby glassware right now, with Churchill Downs adjacent estate sales and thrift stores underpricing pre-2000 pieces that routinely double or triple on eBay before race weekend.
The Louisville Slugger Museum drew record spring visitors in 2025 and a wave of MLB nostalgia content on TikTok is sending collectors to eBay hunting branded factory seconds, older model bats, and store display pieces that thrift stores in the Butchertown and NuLu neighborhoods routinely misprice under $10.
Retro college basketball apparel is exploding on Depop and Poshmark right now driven by the old money preppy and vintage athletic aesthetics cycling through Gen Z, and Louisville Cardinals pieces are dramatically underpriced at local estate sales compared to comparable Kentucky Wildcats items that are already saturating the market.

The shiplap and neutral farmhouse aesthetic that drove Louisville estate sale furniture prices up from 2019 through 2023 has fully peaked and Facebook Marketplace is now flooded with pieces that sat unsold for 60 or more days as buyer tastes shift toward maximalism and color.
Only buy farmhouse style furniture if under $15 and you can move it locally within two weeks, otherwise skip entirely as resale volume is down over 50 percent in this category.
Mass overproduction by Funko combined with a glut of sellers dumping inventory after the brand's near bankruptcy scare saturated eBay and Mercari with common figures at or below retail price, killing margins for anyone without extremely rare exclusives.
Skip common and uncommon Funko Pops entirely unless you find a sealed grail figure under $5, the general market has compressed to near zero margin on anything outside the top 2 percent of releases.
